This final project for the Fall 2020 semester digital art involves putting people in my life into classic works of art. This was possible with the help of Professor Nancy Macko and my TA Samantha McFadden. Special thanks for their tutelage and my friends' permission for me to use their faces!

PORTRAIT BY THE WINDOW

Tanis was the inspiration for this project. When browsing Munch paintings after quiz bowl practice, he said he would like to resemble Munch in his self-portraits when he grows up. Munch's painting style has always intrigued me, so I downloaded oil-painting brushes and finished it up with some saturation adjustments.

DROWNING BOY

My friend Tomás loves Drowning Girl by Lichtenstein - he even has the blue wig! After tracing out new outlines for his facial features, I used a lot of clone stamping and content-aware fill in order to emulate the texture of the canvas. I decided to leave the original fingers, as he usually has his nails done every other week. I struggled to align his face with the original image.

GIRL WITH THE PEARL AIRPOD

My friend Amy is featured here in The Girl with the Pearl Earring by Vermeer. I used digital painting techniques that were covered in the Photoshop lesson. The reference photo that was sent to me featured her airpod still in, which I thought was a humorous modernization of the classic piece. I had difficulty with aligning her eyes properly as the shapes varied significantly, and the plane of Amy's face is less spherical than the original subject.

VAMPIRE IN QUARANTINE

This classic, Vampire in the Forest by Munch, originally has orange hair. I loved this painting's whimsical colors and gentle subject, so I wanted to personalize it to myself with darker hair and warmer skin tones. This final piece in my portfolio involves the same impressionist style and digital oil brushes as my first work, which was my favorite to reproduce.
